Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 11, 2026
1. Overview
This Privacy Policy explains how Variance ("Variance," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use the Variance iOS app (the "App") or visit thequantprepapp.com (the "Site").
Variance is an iOS brain-training and quant-prep app. Some features are available in guest mode, and some features require an account.
2. Age Requirements and Children's Privacy
Variance is not directed to children under 13. Users who identify as under 13 are blocked from using the App.
We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to use the App. If you believe a child under 13 has provided information to us, contact privacy@thequantprepapp.com and we will review and address the report.
3. Guest Mode and On-Device Data
You can use parts of the App in guest mode without creating an account. Guest gameplay is stored locally on your device. Notification preferences are also stored locally on your device.
If you later sign in or create an account on that device, the App may claim local guest progress into your signed-in account so that progress can sync across devices. Until that claim happens, guest gameplay stays on your device and is not stored in your account.
4. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use Variance, we may collect and store the following categories of information:
- Account and profile data: display name, username, full name, email address, subscription status, and sign-in method when you create or use an account.
- Authentication data: information needed to sign you in through email one-time passcode, Sign in with Apple, or Google sign-in.
- Synced gameplay data: game sessions, scores, leaderboard-related data, and brain-teaser progress that you choose to sync through an account.
- Subscription and entitlement data: subscription status and Apple original transaction identifiers needed to validate purchases, restore purchases, and restore access to paid features.
- Bug report data: bug reports you submit, including your free-form report text and related diagnostic details described below.
5. Analytics After Age Verification
After age verification, the App may send product analytics through PostHog. These analytics may include app opens, screen views, button taps, subscription funnel events, and related product-interaction events, including while you use guest mode.
When you are signed in, analytics may be associated with user or account identifiers such as your user ID, email address, display name, and plan. We use this information to understand how the App is used, improve the product, and troubleshoot issues.
6. Bug Reports and Diagnostic Information
If you submit a bug report, we may collect the text you provide along with technical context needed to investigate the issue. This may include the game type, question index, session ID, device information, app version, build number, iOS version, device model, locale, timezone, and similar diagnostic metadata.
7. How We Use Information
We may use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, maintain, and secure the App and Site
- Authenticate users and manage accounts
- Sync gameplay data across devices for signed-in users
- Display leaderboards and related score data
- Validate subscriptions, restore purchases, and restore paid entitlements
- Analyze product usage and improve the App
- Investigate bug reports, diagnose issues, and provide support
- Enforce our age restrictions, Terms of Service, and legal obligations
8. Service Providers and Sharing
We use service providers to operate Variance. These providers may process information on our behalf for the purposes described in this policy.
- Supabase: authentication, database storage, and backend functions.
- PostHog: product analytics after age verification.
- Apple: in-app purchase processing, subscription billing, renewal, cancellation, refunds, and related purchase records.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users, protect our rights, or enforce our agreements. We do not sell your personal information.
9. Subscriptions and Apple Billing
Auto-renewable subscriptions are sold only through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple handles billing, renewal, cancellation, and refunds under Apple's terms and policies.
The App includes a Restore Purchases flow. To support purchase validation and restoration, we may store your subscription status and Apple original transaction identifiers.
10. Account Deletion and Retention
The App includes an in-app Delete Account flow. When you delete your account through that flow, we delete account data, synced gameplay data, bug reports, and linked operational records from our active systems.
Deleting your account does not by itself cancel Apple subscription billing. If you have an active subscription, you must cancel it through the App Store or your Apple account settings.
11. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. You can use the in-app Delete Account flow where available, or contact privacy@thequantprepapp.com for privacy requests.
12. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we may update the date at the top of this page and provide additional notice where appropriate.
